Story line was confusing and disturbing, costumes were something I could have picked up at a thrift store, scenery was boring, and characters rarely moved from their wooden chairs while slugging beer. I anticipated a more updated version but instead viewed a performance that seemed to only want to create shock value.

WHAT THE HECK???
An American classic, absolutely butchered. Been a season ticket holder for years and I also teach drama, with that being said, I have no idea what I just watched? The minimalist stage would have been bearable if there was any sort of staging, costuming, dancing or energy in any form. It was a glorified table read, and it was painful. I appreciate that the director wanted to put a modern spin on it, but then you need to tweak the dialog to reflect your changes. It seems odd to be singing Surrey With the Fringe on Top" or "Everything's Up to Date" as the cast is sitting with slow cookers, wearing mini skirts, and drinking beer....commit to a time period. The singing and acting was so bland, all I can say is that it was not the worst part of the show. The creepy scenes in the dark with the weird videos in the background were what pushed me over the edge. It was all so ridiculous I couldn't stop laughing, had to leave at intermission...much of the audience did too!

WRITE YOUR OWN MUSICAL!
It saddens us that they would take a beautiful, wholesome classic and use it as a platform for modern day politically correctness. This is another example of cancel culture if that’s what you’re looking for. I heard from the attendant before that show that a lot of people have left in the middle of the performance. As someone who has never seen Oklahoma before, I decided to keep an open mind. The set was horrible and actors/actresses sat on the stage the entire time. It just felt awkward and confusing; however, I greatly enjoyed the music. I then realized that the music came from Rodgers and Hammerstein and not from modern producers. This made me realize, STOP STEALING FROM THE MASTERPIECES OF OTHER ARTISTS AND TWISTING THEM FOR YOUR OWN AGENDA. WRITE YOUR OWN ORIGINAL MUSICAL! By the way, we are not dumb or uneducated, we got your symbolism and it was poorly done. The dream sequence was disturbing. It felt like a Seinfeld episode and we were Elaine and George. It was at this point that I realized why people walked out.

This was NOT the Oklahoma I ever wanted to see

THEY SHOULD HAVE NEVER PORTRAYED THIS PLAY AS OLKAHOMA
From the beginning to the end the play was an embarrassment. Even the man taking the money in the parking lot shook his head and said he has not heard one good thing from previous theatre attendees. The Culture Trust leaders should isssue an apology to all Season ticket holders

WORST SHOW EVER
This once lively musical was made into a woke liberal New York agenda pushing interpretation parody of the original. I felt at times I was at the karaoke or open monologue night at the local college coffee bar. There was no flow to the show due to the odd pacing and use of what sounded like pre-recorded monologues in the pitch black theater. The lack of chemistry among the leads was off-putting as well. The theater was not full at the start and I watched over 200 people leave at intermission. We should have followed suit as the second act was as bad as the first.
The formerly beautiful ballet sequence has been turned into a torturous modern dance routine that looked like the dancer was having a seizure onstage.
Save your time and money and avoid this show at all costs. Rent the movie.

DISAPPOINTED TO SAY THE LEAST!
While the cast was talented, this adaptation was the worst show my family and I have ever seen. Those of us who knew the original were disappointed and disillusioned and those who have never seen the original do not want to now for fear that it will be similar to this revival. I do not understand why an upbeat musical needed to be reimagined to include the depression that people face in their daily lives. The theater is to be a reprieve from reality at times not a slap in the face to suggest that nothing ever ends happily.
