One more check on my bucket list

Been a loyal fan since the early 2000s when Jason was with the Truckers. Even coerced my wife into joining me as I've never had the opportunity to see him live in concert. Needless to say the show was amazing, deeply moving, and left us both wrung of emotion before we left the Performing Arts Center. The sound production and lightIng really added the the entire experience up front, but my pop music fan wife even purchased his album post- performance. It was a moving, soulful journey through the eyes and lyrical poetry of a man I can so very much relate with on a more personal level. The song choice and set list structure pefrctly mirrored an opera with movements and crescendo., Albeit, with the addition of new album tracks and lack of a handful of staples from yesteryear; Dress Blues, Goddamn Lonely Love and Decoration Day, Isbell gave an intimate and personal song choice closely resembling his life at present. Wonderful musicianship. Kindred fans. Americana. Perfection. ... Read more

Traveled to see JI at Red Rocks - Not Disappointed

Red Rocks has been on my bucket list for at least 5 years now and when I saw Jason was coming in May I asked my wife if she wanted to do it and she said, let's do it. I had been excited about this show for months and it did not disappoint. The beauty and natural splendor is enough to leave on in awe. Tie in great music and good people and it doesn't get much better. The first time we saw Jason in Peoria, IL back in 2018 the band was incredible, but Amanda was doing her own show that night. Tonight we got to see the queen and she did not disappoint. She adds that extra element and together they played a great show. The three new Weathervanes songs were a great addition to the set and Cast iron skillet, that was just released two day earlier, is an incredible live song. I would do this trip again. ... Read more

Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit in Victoria March 6 2023

Like many others in the Covid era, I had waited over two years to hear Jason Isbell live (the first time for me) and I must say that it was well worth the wait. A great show, with a very good band, but as another reviewer has mentioned, when the band fully engaged, with the exception of Super 8 Motel which is a true rocker, they tended to overpower Isbell's vocals - which I suspect was what most folks were there for. The numbers that featured just Jason and his guitar and/or some subtle support from the band, such as Last of my Kind, Cover me up, Elephant and Vampire, were truly magical. Can't wait for his return! ... Read more
