Honoring the rebellious spirit and profound vulnerability of Sinéad O’Connor, this electric dance production by Tony-Award winner Sonya Tayeh (Moulin Rouge! The Musical) brings to the stage a fiery and inspiratioaln tribute to the iconic artist. Tayeh’s choreography channels the legacy of the trailblazing Irish singer-songwriter, whose fearless artistry and unyielding activism throughout her life redefined pop culture, despite constant media and societal pressure, personal tragedies, and mental health struggles presenting seemingly never-ending setbacks.
Driven by her music and intimate spoken passages from her memoir Rememberings, The Surge: An Ode to Sinead O’Connor sees an ensemble featuring ten women - with over five centuries of combined life experience - in dramatic dance performance that celebrates O’Connor’s defying of convention, using her platform to protest and advocate, and challenge ageist societal norms. Choreographer Sonya Tayeh is celebrated globally for her expressive, high-intensity movement style across stage and screen, and has won acclaim and awards for her work on Moulin Rouge! The Musical, So You Think You Can Dance, and David Henry Hwang’s Kung Fu.
